The Kissan Board Pakistan (KBP) has launched Kissan Raaj Tehreek to get the demands of farming community accepted as a rally was organised in connection with the movement here on Monday.

A large number of farmers participated in the rally under the leadership of KBP President Sadiq Khan Khakwani and marched between Multan Press Club and Commissioner’s Office at Chowk Kutchery. Despite sizzling weather, hundreds of farmers joined the rally and carried out non-stop sloganeering against the government.

Speaking on the occasion, Sadiq Khan Khakwani and others said that the farmers had launched movement and a long march between Sadiqabad and Islamabad would be held in October in favour of their demands. “Over 10,000 farmers will participate in the march to press the government to stop making farmer-killer policies,” they added.

They demanded the government to advance interest-free loans to the farmers, announce special package for them in budget and declare a flat rate for tube-wells in Punjab. They further demanded removal of general sales tax from agricultural inputs so that the farmers could get pesticides, seeds and fertilizers at cheaper rates.

They declared that the farmers were fully prepared to fight last war for the protection of their rights. They asked the government to fix support price of wheat at Rs1,500 per maund and sugarcane Rs280. They further demanded the government to give funds to the Trading Corporation of Pakistan for procurement of cotton, wheat and other items. They warned the government to refrain from importing agricultural items from India and terminate wheat and cotton procurement agreements with the enemy forthwith.
