Islamabad - Announcing the much-awaited inauguration of Metro Bus Service tomorrow (Wednesday) by Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif said that the project will provide better transportation facility to the people travelling between the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

After visiting some portions of Metro Buss route in Islamabad along with journalists and party leaders, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif while addressing a press conference at Punjab House said that the driving force behind the project was to provide quality and comfortable public transport facility to the residents of twin cities and to bridge the widening gap between the rich and the poor.

In shape of Metro Bus service, he said, the middle and lower middle class would have a comfortable transport facility on affordable fare and save them from the ordeal they have to undergo in the absence of adequate transport facility for the residents of twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Responding to a question, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that such a quality public transport facility must be provided to the residents of other provinces too, adding the federal government was already working on plans in coordination with the provincial governments to initiate such projects in big cities across the country where people are confronted with similar problem.

Responding to a question that the prime minister had ignored the chief ministers of other provinces during his series of visits to China and other countries, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that during the previous government he was never asked by the then PPP-led federal government to accompany the prime minister’s delegation visiting China and other countries but during the past one year Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif had extended more then one invitation to both the chief ministers of Sindh and Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa to accompany him in his visit to China but they could not join the PM entourage due to some other engagements.

Chief Minister Punjab further said that Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch accompanied the prime minister several times during his visits to China over the past one year, adding that during these visits developments projects worth billions of dollars have been signed with China in which the share of Sindh province is more than double the amount of investment coming to Punjab and they have no hard feelings in this connection as he saw all this as a Pakistani and have no hard feelings.

To a question, he said that the much-awaited inauguration of the project would be conducted by Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday.

Earlier along with senior journalists and party leaders visited some portions of Metro Bus Stations in Islamabad and examined the final touches being given to it. He directed the supervisor to complete the horticulture work within next 24 hours and appreciated the quality and pace of work being done.

He also travelled on some portion of the project on Metro Bus along with media persons and party leaders.

The invitation cards to the senior party leaders for the inauguration ceremony of the project were already dispatched and law enforcement agencies were directed to make foolproof security arrangements for the inauguration ceremony. The Metro Bus Route spread over 23 kilometers was completed in record time half of which was elevated while the remaining portion was on ground.
