LAHORE  - Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique has ruled out any hurdle in China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC), saying the nation and government will protect the project at any cost.

He was talking to journalists after witnessing agreement between PR Freight Transportation Company (PRFTC), a Pakistan Railways subsidiary, and a Chinese consortium for coal transportation at Sahiwal Coal Power Project. The ceremony held at PR headquarters here on Monday. As per agreement, the Railways would supply coal at project site at Sahiwal from Karachi to Sahiwal for 30 years. Saad Rafique termed the agreement as historic and part of CPEC. He held the Railways needed huge set up for transportation of coal to the site hence it was a big challenge for the department.

The minister said a tender was in progress for the purchase of new American locomotives of 4,000 horsepower and they would be use in the said operation.

PR Chairperson Parveen Agha, PR Advisor to Minister Anjum Pervaiz, PR Chief Executive Officer Javaid Anwar Boobak, Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Energy Department Muhammad Jehanzeb Khan, Chinese Consortium representatives and other PR officers were also present.

Meanwhile, PR is operating two special trains on occasion of Hazrat Shahbaz Qalandar (RA) urs. The first train will operate for Sehwan Sharif from Faisalabad on June 3 at 6pm and the second will depart from Lahore on June 4 at 11am, as per Railways.
