Slain PML-N MPA Rana Shamshad who along with his son Shahbaz Khan and friend Mehmood Shakir were gunned down in a drive-by shooting Sunday night, was laid to rest in a local graveyard in the presence of thousands of mourners.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Mohammad Iqbal, MPAs and MNAs, bureaucrats, police high-ups, leaders of different political parties and a large number of people attend his funeral which held at Wakeel Khan Stadium on Monday.

After the funeral, talking to the media, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah said that Rana Shamshad’s murder was a targeted killing, claiming that the suspects had been identified and would be arrested soon. He vowed that if the accused fled abroad, they would be brought back with the help Interpol.

Criticising the PTI policies, the Punjab Law Minister said that worst rigging and vindictive politics in local bodies’ elections in KPK exposed “the tall claims of change.” “People caught a Provincial Minister belongs to the PTI who was forcibly carrying away ballot boxes but the KPK Police ensured his safe arrival at his house like personal bodyguards,” he alleged.

He said that arrest of Opposition leader Mian Iftikhar in KPK reflected the dictatorial and vindictive thinking of Imran Khan. He said that by arresting Mian Iftikhar, Imran Khan was taking revenge of struggle against terrorism.

Meanwhile, on the application of deceased MPA Rana Shamshad’s cousin Rana Liaquat Ali, the Kamoke Saddr Police registered three murder cases under Sections 302,324, 427, 109 7 ATA and 21 AT against eight culprits including PML-Q leader Ch Mohammad Rafiq Virk, his brothers including Sarfraq Ahmed Virk, Shahbaz Ahmed Virk and his father Fareeq Ahmed Virk and four unidentified accused. The reason behind the murder is stated to be a land dispute and political rivalry.

Rana Shamshad Ahmad Khan, son of Abdul Wakeel Khan was born on May 5, 1965. He graduated in 1987 and later as as agriculturist, he served as Administrator Market Committee and chairman Municipal Committee Kamoke during 1992-93. He had also been Kamoke Tehsil Nazim during 2001-2002.

He remained Member Punjab Assembly during 1992-93 and 1997-99. He returned to Punjab Assembly for the third term in general elections 2002. He worked as Minister for Transport from January 4, 2003 to November 30, 2006. He had also been Minister for Excise and Taxation.
