KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has strongly condemned the killing of senior journalist Mehmood Afridi by armed terrorists in Qalat.

He termed incident blatant attack on the freedom of the press and added that journalists are being gunned down continuously.

He said that the killing of journalists and incidents of violence were a source of great concern for the people particularly when the general elections were approaching near.

He extended sympathies to the bereaved family members and journalists’ organizations and appealed government to take notice and perpetrators should bring to justice.

Meanwhile ANP has strongly condemned the killing of President of the Qalat Press Club and senior journalist Mahmood Afridi and asked the government to arrest the killers forthwith.

In a joint statement on Friday, ANP‘s Asfandyar Wali Khan and Senator Shahi Syed said that the boost in target killing of the journalists carries a question mark on the peace condition of the country. 

Target killings of journalists had created a sense of insecurity among the among the journalists’ community, they added.

They called upon political parties and civil society that time had come to get united to remove terrorism against the journalist from the country.

They extended sympathies to the bereaved family of slain Mehmood Afridi.
