LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that every penny of public money is being spent only on the public welfare projects.

He said the PML-N government is pursuing a policy of transparency in the spending of billions of rupees on the projects for the betterment of the people. He said billions of rupees in these projects are being spent on those schemes that aim at progress and prosperity of the citizens.

The CM said the policy of merit hallmark of the Punjab government was ignored over the 68 years of the national life as a result of which the country is suffering at present.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan started the journey towards progress and prosperity during the next two and a half years. He stressed upon elected representatives to spare no effort for resolving the problems of the people.

POTABLE WATER: Shahbaz Sharif has said that availability of potable water is the basic right of every citizen and keeping in view this fact, Punjab government is implementing a big programme under which water filtration plants will be set up throughout the province.

He expressed these views while addressing a meeting through video link at Civil Secretariat, yesterday.

He said that besides supply of drinking water, improvement of sewerage system, capacity-building of Wasa and use of modern technology for waste water treatment is the need of the hour. He said that Punjab government wants to benefit from the experience and skill of a prominent Chinese company associated with water sector so that better facilities could become available to the masses.

Senior officials of the Chinese company linked with water sector also participated in the meeting through video link. The officials of Chinese company expressed willingness in promoting cooperation with Punjab government for waste water treatment, supply of potable water, improvement of sewerage system and capacity-building of WASA. The Chinese company also assured to work speedily on various ongoing programmes of Provincial Irrigation Department.

Shahbaz Sharif said that there is a need to benefit from modern technology for improvement in water supply and sewerage system, capacity-building of WASA and benefitting from modern technology for waste water treatment.

He said that supply of clean drinking water can help save the people from diseases caused by contaminated water. He said that a basis responsibility can be discharged through resolving this issue by the use of modern technology, therefore, the departments concerned should play an active role in this regard.

Severalty, Shahbaz Sharif has welcomed the substantial reduction in the prices of petroleum products once again. He said that its benefits should reach the people of the province in the real sense.

He directed Provincial Price Control Committee to take steps for reducing prices of essential items at the ratio of the decrease in the rate of petroleum products.

Similarly, he said that the concerned departments should also take measures for reducing transport fares at the same ratio at which the prices of petroleum have been curtailed. The chief minister said that the concerned departments should work in a coordinated manner for the provision of relief to the masses and availability of the petroleum products at the reduced rate should be ensured.

He said that there should not be any complaint of non-availability or overcharging of petroleum products at any petrol pump. He said that Muslim League-N government is making all out efforts for providing relief to the citizens.

Shahbaz Sharif said that substantial decrease in the prices of petroleum products is the gift of Muslim League-N government to the people and the masses should be fully benefitted. He said that government has won the hearts of people by curtailing rates of petroleum products and the process of provision of relief to the people will be continued in future as well.

MESSAGE: Shahbaz Sharif in his message on International Civil Defence Day has said that civil defence activities enable the citizens to take care of themselves in the time of natural calamities.

He said that the purpose of observing this day is to draw attention of the people to civil defence and adopt advance measures in case of any calamity. He said that the purpose of observing civil defence day is also to pay tributes to those people who perform services in the time of any disaster.

The chief minister said that this day is also important in this respect that it promotes awareness among the masses about the importance of civil defence organization. He said that civil defence organization plays an important role in minimizing loss of life and property.
