NEW YORK - Renowned Urdu poet, critic and former President Pakistani Welfare Association New York Dr Askari Hadi Rizvi has died in New York after protracted illness.
Dr. Askari Hadi Rizvi belongs to Karachi, from where he obtained the Masters Degree in Urdu literature after that he joined bank but soon he left the job and joined Radio Pakistan as copy writer.
After serving almost 25 years in radio he was promoted to the rank of Assistant Director and became the incharge of archives section.
During his service he did his Ph D degree Karachi University.
He wrote many radio plays as well as one television drama with name of Jharokay, which was televised by PTV in long play series Tamaseel .
He was the writer of three poetry books, while his one book was published on criticism on Urdu literature. He also wrote some short stories that were published in different magazines.
He went to New York in 1987, where he settled down permanently.
He was recognised as a literary personality.
He organised many Mushairas there.
He was 89 and had been admitted in hospital at New York for three weeks due to sugar, blood pressure and kidney failure.
He left only a son who is engineer in US.
He was buried Tuesday night at Muslim graveyard in New York.
He was elder brother of famous TV actor and writer Kamal Ahmed Rizvi alias Alan who also died some months back.
