PR LAHORE - A five-day media training workshop was arranged by Women Media Center (WMC) in collaboration with the National Endowment for Democracy, (NED) USA in Hotel Ambassador in Lahore. The workshop was aimed at providing professional environment to the female mass communication students and journalists to to increase their participation in the mainstream media.

The main theme of the workshop was, “Media and Civil Society: Building Democracy & Fighting Extremism in Pakistan” under which the participants were guided to develop news packages to serve the cause of mitigating extremism. Renowned journalists Mujeebur Rehman Shami, IA Rehman, Shadab Riaz, Nida Tahseen and Lahore Press Club president Mian Shahbaz also addressed the participants and shared their journalistic experiences.

WMC Pakistan’s Executive Director Fouzia Shaheen said, “We are working day and night to provide empowerment training, promote media freedom to counter the entry barriers confronted by women journalists in Pakistan.”

WMC was founded in 2005 as a non-profit organization working for the promotion of women journalists by means of promoting socially conscious programs on television, video and radio to raise awareness. To-date WMC has trained more than 1,000 females with hands-on experience on camera and other reporting tools.
