LAHORE (PR): Working class all over the country commemorated International Labour Day on lst May under the aegis of Pakistan Workers Confederation as a “Protest Day” against sky-rocketing price-hike of essential commodities and aggravating unemployment and closure of thousand industrial units on account of serious electricity and gas load shedding and continuous exploitation of masses on account of prevalence of outdated feudalistic and crony capitalism system allowing rich to be richer and poor to be poorer and plundering the national wealth by the elite and retrogressive labour laws restricting the fundamental rights of freedom of association of the workers and non-implementation of safety, health and social protection laws against rise of inferno in industrial units in the presence of contract and temporary and precarious employment and abuse of child and bounded labour and discrimination against the women in the society.
The workers in the various cities including Lahore, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Karachi and Quetta including Lahore and others cities held mass rallies and took out large procession to pay homage to the martyrs of Chicago and in support of their demands. At Lahore, a main procession was taken out from Bakhtiar Labour Hall.
