KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Thursday announced to observe a day of mourning in Sindh on Friday (today) against the extrajudicial killings of its four workers whose dead bodies were found near Memon Goth, Karachi.
Muttahida Ulema Mahaz Pakistan has also announced to support the MQM call of mourning . Transporters, traders and private schools have also joined the bandwagon and announced to suspend their activities. 
Addressing a press conference at Khursheed Begum Secretariat at Aziziabad, Karachi on Thursday, MQM deputy convener Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui claimed the entire city was tensed over the extrajudicial killing of MQM workers . He appealed to the transporters and businessmen to keep their businesses closed and transport off the roads.
MQM deputy convener Engineer Nasir Jamal, MQM coordination committee members Nasreen Jalil, Dr Farooq Sattar, Kanwar Naveed, Ishfaq Mangi and others were also present on the occasion.
“Four MQM workers including Sameed, Ali Haider, Faizan and Salam Qureshi, whose dead bodies were found on Wednesday from Memon Goth, Malir,” he added. He alleged that they were violently killed by the law enforcement agencies. He alleged all the four victims were arrested by the Rangers and police from Country Tower and Gulshan-e-Maymar on April 13 and were brutally tortured to death. He said our two workers Zohaib Asgher and Ziaur Rehman were still missing and party was concerned about them.
“We have moved the courts for the recovery of missing workers but it is unfortunate that judiciary did not give us protection over the illegal practice of the law enforcement agencies,” he added.
He said the situation was going out of their hands and if the authorities did not took notice then the situation might go out of control as anger and annoyance exist in the people.
Talking about the Karachi operation, he said they supported the targeted operation which was lunched to eliminate the criminals from the City. MQM extended its support as country’s prosperity is linked with the peace of Karachi but the direction of operation was diverted towards the MQM .
Siddiqui said on one side the government was holding dialogues with the Taliban who were violating the constitution of the country while on the other hand, the victimisation of political workers were continued in the name of targeted operation in Karachi.
He appealed to President of Pakistan, Prime Minister, Sindh chief minister and governor to take notice of the issue and recover the missing workers .
MQM leader Dr Farooq Sattar said during the All Parties Conference on August 28, 2013, the premier assured all the political parties to establish a monitoring committee to supervise the targeted operation in Karachi but that committee was yet not established. He said the human rights organisation, media and other organisations should play their role as the basic rights of the people were being violated including the violation of the constitutions and laws of the country.  
Karachi Transporters Ittehad president Irshad Bhukhari has announced not to bring the transport on roads during the mourning day . Similarly, the private schools association and various traders unions have also declared to suspend their activities on Friday. Boards of intermediate Karachi in a press release have postponed all the examination scheduled on Friday and the new date for the examination would be announced later.
Meanwhile, MQM chief Altaf Hussain in a statement, which issued here on Thursday, has strongly condemned the extrajudicial murders of MQM’s four workers .
“We have repeatedly raised voice over the raids, abductions and torture on MQM workers carried out by the death squads of police and other law enforcement agencies. Workers are being abducted and subjected to torture and executed in cold blood and their mutilated bodies were dumped on the roads. Judiciary also did not take any suo moto action on the killings. The situation has emboldened these killers and they are carrying out the extrajudicial murders with impunity. Altaf demanded an action against the LEAs personnel who are killing MQM workers extra-judicially and are not presenting them in the courts after arrest.
