Altaf apologises for statement about army

| Says his speech taken out of context | Asking Indian spy agency to help MQM just ‘satire’

KARACHI - Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain on Friday tendered unconditional apology for his statement about Pakistan Army and demanding assistance from Indian spy agency RAW, saying that his demand from RAW to assist MQM was just ‘satire’.
In a statement issued from London, MQM chief said speech made by him the previous night had been taken out of context.
“I had talked about getting help from RAW in a sarcastic manner. However, I apologise from the core of my heart if my words have hurt the feelings of national security institutions and patriotic people of the country.” “Pakistan is our country, and it will remain our country. Our life and death are tied with Pakistan.” said Altaf adding that “I also want to make it clear that the Mohajirs have no relations with any country other than Pakistan.”
MQM chief said he never intended to disparage the government or any respected institution but regretted that his speech was not fully understood and it was considered completely out of the context.
“Our forefathers rendered sacrifice of two million people for Pakistan, and we are their descendants. We are loyal to Pakistan and will remain true to our words in spite of hardships being faced by Mohajirs and injustices done to them,” he added.
Altaf said the MQM had organised the largest rally in support of the Zarb-e-Azb against terrorists.
“I had saluted the Pak Army in front of hundreds of thousands of people. I will continue to respect Pakistan Army.”
“It was natural to feel hurt at the allegations of enmity with the country when the arrested people were shown on television as agents of RAW, and the MQM was falsely implicated,” he said adding, “I had stated it clearly in my address that Pakistan is our country, and we will not migrate to any other land now.” “Do not put a question mark on the loyalty of Mohajirs and refrain from using contemptuous remarks against them. This should end once and for all,” said MQM chief.
“I would appeal not to denigrate 40 million patriotic Mohajirs. I pray Almighty Allah to enable us to work for Pakistan with complete sincerity,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that MQM chief Altaf Hussain had bitterly criticised the national security institutions last night while addressing MQM workers at party headquarters Nine-Zero.
