Naqeebullah murder case: ATC adjourns hearing as Rao Anwar fails to appear before court

Anti-terrorism court (ATC) adjourned the hearing of Naqeebullah murder case against the suspended SSP Rao Anwar. Rao Anwar failed to appear before the ATC due to degenerated health issues.

Rao Anwar along with his team killed Naqeebullah Mehsud, a 27-year-old native of South Waziristan, in an alleged fake encounter in Karachi on January 13.

The jail authorities told court that Rao Anwar is sick and a doctor had been called for his checkup. Later, the jail authorities presented Rao Anwar’s medical certificate.  The reported stated that Rao Anwar can't be appeared before the court due to his health issues.

Then, the court adjourned the hearing till May 14.

Earlier, on April 21, Rao Anwar was sent on judicial remand by ATC. Dr Rizwan, Investigation officer SSP Central, had requested the court to grant more time for completing investigation against Rao Anwar.   

Constable Shakeel, who was reportedly part of the encounter team who killed Naqeebullah, was also sent on judicial remand.

While speaking to media outside the ATC, Naqeebullah's family members hoped for justice from the courts and said, “Rao Anwar is sly not sick, After God, we expect justice from courts”.
