About a year back, the National Bank of Pakistan had announced Rs. 0.50 million literary awards for books in various categories. Nominations for authors and books were sought from the length and breadth of the country. The result was to be declared in January this year when the awards were to be distributed in the function held for Pakistan Day (March 23, 08). Now the year 2008 is about to end but the NBP officials have maintained complete silence with regard to these awards. Will the president of the bank please direct the concerned section to clarify the position if the scheme has been dropped and, if so, for what reasons? -FAISAL KARIM, Karachi, via e-mail, October 21.
