ISLAMABAD - Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro has summoned Senate session on November 10 at 04:00pm on the requisition of Opposition and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). Leader of Opposition in the Senate Kamil Ali Agha Saturday told TheNation that Opposition members and MQM had signed the requisition for convening the 48th session of the Upper House. "In the requisition, the Opposition and the MQM have demanded of the government to discuss the conditions of the package of $ 9 billion loan from International Monitoring Fund (IMF) in the House," he said. The Opposition Leader said the IMF agreed to $ 9 billion economic stabilisation plan for Pakistan during a weeklong meeting with Pakistan officials in Dubai. He said the government hadn't taken Parliament into confidence in that regard, despite repeated assurances by the government side that the Parliament would not be ignored on important issues. He said most of Senators were against borrowing any loan from IMF and the government had adopted two-faced policy. "The House would also discuss the process of privatisation of National Bank of Pakistan, Qadirpur Gas Field and Dawood Sugar Mill. The issue of price hike, inflation and smuggling will also be discussed," Agha added. The Opposition leader strongly condemned the US drone attacks on North and South Waziristan Agencies on Friday last in which 37 people were killed and said the Nato forces were consistently violating the sovereignty of the country. Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmed of Jamaat-e-Islami also lambasted the US drone attack. "In last session of the Senate, a total of 67 members including those from treasury benches have proposed that Pakistan should not get loan from IMF. In spite of that the government is getting loan from IMF at tough conditions," Khurshid said. It is worth mentioning here that the Senate Business Advisory Committee and different parliamentary parties will also meet separately prior to the Senate session.
