Guard Rice survive scare before winning title

LAHORE Guard Rice survived a scare from Vogue Furniture before emerging victorious in the final of the HSBC Cup Polo tournament at the Lahore polo Club at the picturesque Aibak ground of the Lahore Polo Club. Vogue furniture enjoyed a significant handicap of one-and-a-half goal before the match and had it not been for the last two goals by Guard Rice, it would have been the biggest of the many upsets this tournament has seen. Guard Rice started off well with two goals in the first chukker - both identical field goals after long chase. Hamza Mawaz Khan opened the second chukker for Guard Rice off a solo effort making it 3-0. Taimur Mawaz launched Vogue Furniture campaign it with a 30-yarder. In the four-goal third chukker, Vogue Furnite came back with a vengeance and hit three goals. This combined with their handicap made it 5 1/2 to 4 for Vogue Furniture and it seemed as if they will run away with the title. But A late field goal by Taimur Ali Malik, followed by a solo-effort from Aurangzeb Monnoon gave Guard Rice the winning edge. Omar Asjad Malhi and Usman haye officiated the match. Earlier, Adisseo had to sweat hard to ward off a spirited display from Data Hybrid Corn in their 9-8 win. Hashim Kamal Agha starred for the winning side with five goals. Usman Haye and Hassan Ali Farrukh officiated the match. President Pakistan Polo Association Major General Bilal Omar Khan (HI) M was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
