Karachi gain lead against HBL

KARACHI - Karachi Blues took first innings lead over Habib Bank Limited (HBL) when it posted 394 on the penultimate day of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Division I match here on Tuesday at the National Stadium.
Resuming at overnight total of 220 for five, Karachi Blues added 174 more runs to take 18 runs lead. HBL scored 376 in their first effort.
Karachi Blues tail-enderes batted with greater confidence and responsibility. Wajihuddin added 35, Sohail Khan 39, Tanvir Ahmed 38 and Javed Mansoor 35. Danish Kaneria took four for 140 and Shahid Nazir four for 70 in Karachi innings. HBL made 80 runs in their second innings without loss at the close of the day. In division II match at NBP Stadium, Karachi Whites are sensing victory over Hyderabad which only have a meagre overall lead of 36 runs with just one wicket in hand and full days play left on the fourth day on Wednesday. Karachi Whites scored 371 in first innings after Faraz Ahmed Khan slammed 124. Hyderabad Region fell for 197 in the first knock and were following on. They made 210 for nine in their second innings at the close of the third day play.
