Seems an untimely move

Most of the people would have taken the statement of former National Assembly deputy speaker and veteran leader of the PML-N about presidential form of government with a pinch of salt. He is of the view that the parliamentary system of government has failed to resolve the problems being faced by the people. In his wisdom, the presidential form is the cure and panacea for all ills.
The basic question is whether the idea is his own or reflects PML-N party line? His argument is that successive military dictators have distorted the shape of the 1973 constitution by introducing amendments and disabled the parliamentary system, rendering it unfit to serve national and public interests. What makes this move by a PML-N stalwart significant is its timing when the general elections are around the corner. But whether the PML-N is at the back of the idea would be known in the coming days. One has to wait and see how the establishment is going to respond. Needless to say that the presidential form of government has been tried in the past, but has failed to live up to expectations.
