KARACHI - Seven people including a cop were killed in various violent incidents, while law enforcers claimed to have arrested 87 suspects during targeted operations here on Friday.
Deceased cop Shahzada Khan, 53, posted in Crime Branch was shot dead in an act of target killing near Napier Road. SHO Aziz Shaikh said that the deceased, resident of Napier Police Quarters, was sitting near to his residence as per routine when unidentified persons shot him dead, adding that motive behind the incident has yet to be ascertained. Fifty-year-old Bashir Ahmed, son of Ghafoor Ahmed was killed and four others including Mohammad Ahmed, Asad Fazal, Wajid and Owais were wounded in a firing incident in Orangi Town within Mominabad police remits.
SHO Ahmed Butt said that the incident took place when a crowd of people tried to catch some street criminals who were trying to flee after robbing passers-by. The robbers resorted indiscriminate firing to flee which resulted the incident.
A general store owner, 34-year-old Muhammad Yousuf, was killed at Naval Colony in Baldia Town when at least two armed men entered his general store and tried to rob it. Police officials said that the robbers shot him dead when he offered resistance.
In another incident, Aziz Khan was killed in Gulshan-e-Sikandarabad within the limits of Jackson Police Station. Police said that victim’s brother Ghaffor, two passers-by were also wounded in the incident. SHO Sabir Khan said the incident took place when two parties collided with other over some dispute.
An elderly man, Abu Hassan was found dead from inside his house in the Manghopir locality. Police said the deceased was strangulated by unidentified persons over some unknown reason.
Two more people were killed and two others were wounded when armed men opened indiscriminate firing at Landhi’s Quaidabad area. SHO Ahmed Malik said that at least four armed men riding on two motorcycles entered the café and opened indiscriminate firing over unexplained reasons. As a result, four café’s visitors were wounded. They were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where two of them succumbed to injuries. The officer said that one deceased was identified as Waqar Ishaq, 17 while the other one is yet to be identified The injured were identified as Imran and Tayyab.
Meanwhile, Rangers claimed to have apprehended 14 alleged criminals during targeted raids in Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Lyari, Moosa Colony, Khuda Ki Basti, Rasheedabad, Baldia Town, Gulshan-e-Bihar, Faqira Goth, FC Area, German Chowk in Lines Area and Pak Colony areas. According to Rangers’ spokesperson, 14 criminals along with weapons were arrested during the targeted raids.
Meanwhile, Karachi police claimed to have apprehended 72 alleged criminals including 40 absconders, three robbers, 8 under arms ordinance and 15 under narcotics ordinance during 85 raids conducted in parts of the city. Weapons and narcotics were also recovered from the suspects. An alleged gangster, Ramzan was arrested after an encounter with police in Dhobi Ghat area of Lyari. The accused was associated with the Asif Niazi Group. Police officials also claimed to have recovered weapons from his possession, adding that his accomplices managed to escape during exchange of fire.
Meanwhile, an under-trial prisoner died under mysterious circumstances at Central Prison Karachi. 23-year-old Afghan origin, Abdul Qadir Khan, was arrested by the Rangers under the Arms and Narcotics Ordinances from Orangi Town and later handed over to Mominabad Police Station from where he was sent to Central Jail, Karachi about seven months ago. Police said the deceased was the epilepsy patient and died on the way to Civil Hospital, Karachi after his condition got serious due to sudden attack. SHO Aziz Shaikh said the post-mortem under has been carried out and initially, no mark of torture was found over his body.
Separately, Pakistan Coast Guards seized huge quantity of hashish from the general area Shadi Kaur Pasni (Balochistan). According to details, PCG’s special mobile petrol carried out operation on the credible information from intelligence resources about smuggling of narcotics in Shadi near Pasni. About 470-kilogram of fine quality of hashish was recovered.
This consignment of hashish was planned to be transported abroad using boats in coming days.
