National Junior Tennis enters quarters stage

ISLAMABAD-As many as 27 matches were decided on the second day of the McDonalds National Junior Tennis Championship 2017 here at Pakistan Sports Complex tennis courts on Wednesday.

Saqib Umer, Ilham Khan, Ahmed Asjad, Hasheesh Kumar, Aqib Umer, Asad Ullah, Subhan bin Salik and M Shoaib moved into the quarterfinals by beating their respective opponents. Hasheesh Kumar of Karachi made the major upset by beating 6th seed M Abdullah in three-set match, as he won the match 6-4, 6-7, 6-2 in three hours. Ilaham Khan of Peshawar also stunned 7th seed Hamza Bin Rehan in a well-contested three-set match 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

In boys U-14 singles second round matches, Sami Zaib beat Kamran Khan 4-1, 4-1; M Huzaifa Khan beat Huzaima Abdul Rehman 4-2, 4-1; Hasheesh Kumar beat Zalan Khan 4-2, 4-2; Ahmed Nael beat Yahya Musa Luni 4-0, 4-2; Mahatir Mohammad got w/o against Uzair Khan; Hamid Israr beat Hamid ullah Yaqub 4-1, 4-1; Abdul Samad beat M Umder 4-2, 4-0 and Abdul Hanan beat Azan Sajid 4-2, 4-1.

In girls U-18 singles first round matches, Shimza Tahir beat Nayyab Kaleem 6-0, 6-0; Kinza Phool beat Arooj Shafiq 6-2, 6-0; Roma Akbar w/o Shireen Waraich; Sadia Qazi beat Raheela Zaman 6-2, 6-1; Sheeza Sajid beat Komal Ali 6-0, 6-0; Sana Rauf got w/o against Sarah Ahmed and Esha Jawad beat Irsa Bibi 6-0, 6-0.

In boys/girls U-10 singles first round matches, Zara Khan beat Mustafa Usman Noor 4-2, 4-2; Esha Sheikh beat Zarnaaz Usman Noor 4-1, 4-0; M Haaziq Aasim beat M Moez Gul 4-2, 5-3 and Awais Ali got w/o against Momin Bin Mufassir.
