Khursheed, Shehbaz discuss political situation

ISLAMABAD  -  Pakistan People’s Party central leader Syed Khursheed Shah Thursday discussed the overall political situation, alleged victimisation of mainstream opposition leaders by National Accountability Bureau and the proposed opposition parties’ moot with Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif.

The meeting which was held in the chamber of Leader of Opposition in National Assembly was also joined by PPP leader Syed Naveed Qamar and JUI-F central leader Maulana Attaur Rehman.

The overall political situation in the country with specific reference to the recent lockdown by a religio-political party activists in various parts of Punjab came under discussion and it was unanimous view between the two major political parties in opposition—PML-N and PPP--- to help government bailout from this situation.

However, JUI-F leadership was having different view of all this and they considered Imran Khan as agent of Jews and the sooner his government would be wrapped up the better it would be for the people of Pakistan as PTI-led government was causing massive damage to both the country on both economic and ideological fronts.

Syed Khursheed Shah conveyed the message of party leadership that they should need to support the government on this issue as the government writ should not be compromised to a handful of miscreants out to play with the religious sentiments of the people.

Leader of Opposition Shehbaz Sharif fully agreed with the point of view of PPP leadership and later both these parties had demonstrated their views in National Assembly where the leadership of both these parties had extended unequivocal support to government on this particular issue.

The issue of NAB accesses against the opposition parties also figured in the meeting that both Shehbaz Sharif and Syed Khursheed Shah stressed the need for making the accountability apparatus of the country apolitical so check the political victimisation of opponents.

Both of them also stressed the need for bringing structural changes in NAB so that it could be brought out of the political influence and it should not be used as tool of arm twisting in the hands of rulers.

They also discussed the prospects of calling the JUI-F sponsored all parties conference to devise some joint strategy to keep check on the functioning of PTI led coalition government and to pressurise it from taking anti-people decisions like the recent increase in the petroleum prices.

It was agreed that both these parties would continue deliberations on the issue in a next meeting and in consultation with other opposition parties would devise its terms of reference and agenda.

It is pertinent to mention here the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, a driving force behind the move, while deferring the all parties conference on Wednesday informed that he had empowered the Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif to devise its ToRs and also set the agenda of APC so that the opposition parties could be brought at one platform and keep strong check on the functioning of PTI led government.
