LAHORE - In reiteration of his earlier statements, Punjab Governor Ch Sarwar Monday said that political opponents would fail in their plans despite negative propaganda against the government and general elections would not be held before 2023.
While talking to the Punjab Assembly members and PTI delegations from various districts at Governor House, he said: “Public and the coalition parties are with the government which will complete its constitutional term. The government does not believe in confrontation; it rather wants to take everyone along including the opposition in the larger national interest.”
The Punjab governor said despite tall claims of the opposition to overthrow the government, the PTI had completed more than three years. “The remaining years will also pass and general elections will be held in 2023,” he added.
“People will choose the next government through ballot,” he stated.
The governor said that the opposition parties had staged protests in the past as well, but the government was not daunted with their threats. “It is clear that opposition parties are themselves divided and lack vision,” he said.
Ch Sarwar said that the government was working on electoral reforms to make the following elections transparent. “The government,” he said, “has also sought opposition’s support in this regard, but it is not only creating hurdles in electoral reforms but also in the matter of overseas Pakistanis’ right to vote which is not in the interest of the nation.”
The governor said that provision of basic facilities to the masses including healthcare and education was on the top of the government’s agenda. He added that Insaf Health Card would be provided to all people in Punjab province till December 2021. He said that Punjab Aab-e-Pak Authority was working on 1,500 water filtration plants. He said that the government had saved the country from bankruptcy through prudent economic policies, adding that all the international organisations had acknowledged the economic stability of Pakistan. He said that the government was taking practical steps to solve problems especially inflation.
