ISLAMABAD - The court on Thursday granted one-day physical remand of Jamil Abassi, co-accused of the owner of Inter-Risk Security Company, Syed Ali Jaffer Zaidi. Kohsar Police had arrested Jamil Abbasi Wednesday on the information of Zaidi who is already on physical remand in the police custody. According to police sources Abbasi had close relations with some officials of the US embassy and he had arranged weapons of prohibited bore for the Inter-Risk Security Company. Police sources also claimed that Abbasi had some close links in the Ministry of Interior and helped Zaidis company to arrange licences of arms from the ministry. However, sources close to Jamil Abbasi, who is also a Human Rights activist and a former member of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI), rejected all those allegations levelled against him. They claimed that he had been a staunch supporter of the movement for restoration of judges of superior courts and was convicted by the incumbent government due to his participation in the movement. Qaisar Niaz, Sub Inspector (SI) who is the investigation officer (IO) of Abbasi was contacted several times by this scribe for recent developments in the case but he was not available for comments.
