MUNICH (AFP) - Bayern Munich were held to a 0-0 draw at home to Group A rivals Juventus on Wednesday, which left the frustrated German giants sharing the top of the table with group rivals Bordeaux. Bayern created a string of chances in the first half and ended the game with 14 shots on target compared to the Italians seven, but Louis van Gaals side failed to break the Juventus defence. We did not win and its not every week that we can say: 'We could have won - simple as that, said van Gaal bluntly, while praising striker Miroslav Klose for a very good performance. We have to score goals to win and we created so many chances to win, so it is a pity we didnt get a result and we are very disappointed. But if we continue to play in such a way, it is only a question of time before the results go our way. With Maccabi Haifa losing 1-0 at Bordeaux, Bayern stay top of the table only by virtue of a superior goal difference compared to the French champions, who they will meet in the next round of matches. Van Gaal opted to start Germany star Miroslav Klose as the lone striker with Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery - dubbed 'Robbery by the German media - on the wings in a 4-3-3 formation. In defence, 20-year-old Holger Badstuber partnered Belgiums Daniel van Buyten at centre-back with Germanys Philipp Lahm and Hollands Edson Braafheid on the flanks. Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara opted for his customary 4-4-2 with Frances David Trezeguet partnering Italian World Cup winner Vincenzo Iaquinta up front. The sides had experienced mixed fortunes in their opening games, with Bayern winning 3-0 at Maccabi while Juve drew 1-1 at home to Bordeaux. The Germans threatened in the opening minutes when 20-year-old midfielder Thomas Mueller fired across the face of the goal, but his effort went wide, while Trezeguet picked up an early card. Brazils ex-Werder Bremen midfielder Diego then fired straight at Bayern goalkeeper Hans-Joerg Butt on 18 minutes, but seconds later Ribery beat two defenders only to float his shot over both goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and the crossbar. Just before the half-hour mark, Mueller broke through and went one-on-one with Buffon, but tried to play Robben into space and wasted the chance, with Klose heading over from the resulting corner. Juves Mauro Camoranesi then fired wide of the post while seconds later both Mueller, Klose and Schweinsteiger all had chances against Buffon. Ribery was sent tumbling to the turf on several occasions by robust Juventus marking and referee Howard Webb finally lost his patience when he showed Camoranesi a yellow card on 36 minutes. Just before the half-time whistle Robben limped out of the game with an injury to his right leg, Ivica Olic replacing him. The game went flat in the second-half as Juventus playmaker Diego went off and van Gaal brought on Germany striker Mario Gomez to spruce up Munichs attack. Iaquinta had arguably the best chance of the game to put the guests ahead when he mistimed his shot on 65 minutes and slammed his fist into the turf in frustration - it was one of those nights. Robben injury is serious, admits Bayerns van Gaal Bayern Munichs 0-0 draw at home to Juventus in Wednesdays Champions League clash could have cost them the services of winger Arjen Robben for a while, according to coach Louis van Gaal. Robben only arrived at Bayern from Real Madrid last month, but he hobbled off just before the break in the Group A match at Munichs Allianz Arena with an injury to his right knee leaving van Gaal far from optimistic. I think it is a serious injury - it doesnt look good, said van Gaal with more information expected to be released later Thursday. Bayern dominated the first half, but failed to hit the back of the net to make their advantage pay off as Juventus returned to Turin with a point. In the first half, we played outstandingly well against a top team, but we did not get the win, said van Gaal. We were dominant and Juventus did not create many chances. I think we havent played as well as that in the first half in any other games this season. We had many chances and did not get the goal. That is very unfortunate, but if we keep playing like that, then it is just a matter of time before the wins come. With group rivals Maccabi Haifa losing 1-0 at Bordeaux, Bayern stay top of the table only by virtue of a superior goal difference compared to the French champions, who they will meet in the next round of matches. We are disappointed, said Bayern captain Philipp Lahm. If you have outplayed the opposition, but still only have a 0-0 draw - you have to be disappointed with that. We had three clear chances to go one-to-one with the goalkeeper and you have to score off those opportunities in the Champions League. We had enough chances to score, but we didnt take them. In the second-half, a few errors slipped into the game, we played well, but the lack of goals is an issue. For Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara, leaving Germany with a point was an acceptable result as his side are third in the table with two points from two games. We can live with the point and we are content, said Ferrara. Bayern played particularly well in the first half time before they had problems and lost Robben. In addition, we had one or two chances. We have now two points, our goal is to at least reach the last sixteen. But for Juventus play-maker Diego, who was taken off in the second-half after a typically dynamic performance, the draw was disappointing. We are not completely content, because we wanted to win here, said the Brazil. Bayern played a good game, but we also had three or four good possibilities to win. In the group, everything is still open - there are only a few points seperating the sides and we have to use our chances to make the next round.
