Students of universities in Sindh have been facing a lot of problems for several years. They have suffered deaths and injuries as a result of violence on students and this is known to the authorities, who are unfortunately indifferent to their plight. When the students of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, were lathi-charged by police no one was taken to task. Then a few weeks ago, a student died at the Agriculture University of Tandojam, and the university administration has not yet instituted an inquiry into the incident. Similarly, there has been violence in other educational institutions like Mehran University of Jamshoro and Qauid-i-Awam University of Nawabshah. At places, extremists start taking advantage of lax administration. I call upon the authorities to take note of these incidents that disturb peace, and create conditions conducive to studies. TARIQ SHABIR BHATTI, Jamshoro, September 30.
