KARACHI - The Sindh information minister said the MQM-Haqiqi Chairman Afaq Ahmed is political leader and government has not imprisoned him but he is being kept in jail due to a threat to his life. He was talking to the media after an oath taking ceremony of the newly-elected office-bearers of the National Peace Committee for Inter-Faith Harmony here at Sindh Information Department on Saturday. Sharjeel Inam Memon said that for the last many years, terrorists had been trying destroy peace in Karachi. However, he said, the government had foiled all ulterior motives of these enemies. He urged all the sections of the society to come forward to ensure peace in the country and Karachi. He said those wanted to create hatred among different sections of the society would remain unsuccessful. He added, We all are Pakistanis and we will never fight each other. He appreciated the role of religious scholars and the media in maintaining peace. To a question, he said no one would be allowed to collect hides on Eidul Azha and those would try to do so by force, stern action would be taken against them. The purpose of the peace committee is to promote peace, love and harmony among the believers of different religions and sects.
