Kashmiri journalists form organisation

Our Staff reporter MIRPUR (AJK) - The Working Kashmiri Journalists have formed their separate entity with the name of Jammu & Kashmir Journalists Organization to work for the promotion of healthy journalism besides being the custodian of the dignity of intellect and pen in the state. Unveiling the prime objectives of formation of the new organization of purely working journalists affiliated with the national print and electronic media, the newly-elected President of the organization and senior Kashmiri journalist Hafiz Muhammad Maqsood told reporters here on Friday that a congregation of Kashmiri journalists from various parts of AJK and Pakistan in a formal session in Rawalpindi Press Club unanimously decided to form the representative body of the working Kashmiri journalists. Hafiz continued that with Chief Organizer Senior Journalist Khalid Chaudhry from Bhimbher, Vice President - I Raja Sohrab Ahmed Khan from Mirpur, Gen Secretary Tahir Abbasi and other office-bearers from various other parts of AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan, the newly-formed outfit of the working Kashmiri journalists will work, with prime focus to improve professional skills of working journalists in all three units of the State of Jammu & Kashmir i-e Azad Jammu & Kashmir, Gilgit / Baltistan and Indian-held Jammu & Kashmir besides those dwelling in rest of the world with prime objective of promoting bilateral cooperation for exchange of professional skills and know-how, encouraging and strengthening the sincere. and serious efforts for the achievement of Kashmiris legitimate right to self determination - that acknowledged through the international norms and commitments, freedom of expression and the promotion of healthy journalism harmonious to the need of modern era. He further said that the JKJO will arrange holding of training workshops and seminars to raise the professional capabilities of working journalists, managing study trips both at home and abroad including the bilateral visits of journalists from all parts of the state of Jammu & Kashmir as above to bring them closer to each other for exchange of their professional abilities and experiences. Hafiz Maqsood said that to encourage and assist the efforts of local journalists for the establishment of Press Clubs at all tehsil, district and divisional headquarters - where these Forums lacks. It will encourage and get materialized ideas for establishment of media cities and towns for providing housing facilities to the shelter-less working journalists, he said.
