LAHORE - The recently made increase in the petroleum prices has been challenged through a writ petition before the Lahore High Court. The petition, filed by a local lawyer, assails the increase made in the petrol and diesel prices, from the point of view that it will go to increase the financial burden on the poor when they are already leading a miserable life. The court has been told through the petition that raise in petroleum prices means hike in the price of every item that a layman needs to sustain his life. A large number of people in the country are without job and resources, and they are barely making both ends meet, and the price hike on account of increase in the petroleum prices would really crush them. The petitioner has prayed to the court to direct the government to withdraw the increase and also cut down the POL prices to the affordable level of the layman.
