Zero tolerance would be shown to the officers concerned if the arrangements for distribution of assistance to the flood-hit people were not made transparent, said the Punjab chief minister during his various visits to flooded areas here on Wednesday.

Addressing a ceremony held for disbursement of first installment to the flood affectees at Pindi Bhattian, Shahbaz Sharif said, “Providing financial assistance to the affectees is our religious obligation to otherwise Almighty Allah would not forgive us. I would not hesitate to suspend even a commissioner, RPO, DCO, DPO and other officers concerned if they failed to transparently ensure the distribution of financial assistance.” He said that the first installment of Rs150 million is being distributed to 4,210 affectees of the district at the rate of Rs25,000 each. The second installment of the assistance would be given from October 20 for the loss/damage of crops and houses. He said that after 1973 floods, the recent flood played havoc and done colossal loss of human lives, houses, livestock and crops. First time in the history of Pakistan, those lost their lives during flood have been paid Rs1.6 million each, he claimed.

He said that cultivators would be provided with compensation of the loss of their crops besides seeds and chemical fertilisers for bettering their social economic condition. He said that he would not rest till last affectee was provided with assistance. He said due to prompt steps, the government had resolved the problems created by unprecedented floods. The recipients of assistance were also provided refreshment at the disbursement centres. Handing over financial assistance to affected people in Shahpur of Sargodha district, the chief minister said that the holders and participants of the Islamabad sit-ins were doing negative politics but the PML-N tigers were helping the affectees. Their negative politics compelled China to invest in India, he said.  He said, “To save the national interest, our tigers are silent over the Go Nawaz Go slogans.” He requested the PTI workers to refrain from anti Nawaz slogans.  Addressing the people and the media at Sambrial and Wazirabad, he said that the government was ensuring the transparent distribution of the financial compensation to the flood affectees. He said that the government had jazzed up the pace of the rehabilitation activities. The Sambrial flood affectees said that the sum of Rs25,000 was not enough even for building one room. They rejected the government’s assistance after hearing about the amount to be delivered. They said that PML-N persons were being obliged and the edibles’ bags are given only to those who are affiliation with the PML-N.

Punjab Flood Relief Package has been launched in Uchsharif, Ahmadpur East. The district administration has set up a centre at Government Boys High School Uchsharif where Incharge District Flood Qazi Adnan Farid and MPA Fauzia Ayub Qureshi distributed Rs25 thousands cash to each flood victim. District administration has also set up a complaint cell for the immediate redressal of complaints
