NA Speaker rejects reference regarding PM Nawaz's eligibility

ISLAMABAD- Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq today dismissed a reference challenging Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s eligibility under Article 63(2) of Constitution.

The reference was forwarded by Advocate Azhar Siddiq on August 3. The advocate had stated that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had defamed Pak Army in his speech during the joint session of the parliament.

According to ruling, the Prime Minister enjoys immunity in this case under Article 66(1). The NA Speaker declared the reference notice as baseless and opposite to the facts. It is pertinent to mention here that the matter could be reviewed by Election Commission of Pakistan if NA Speaker fails to give decision.
