The Twilight Saga is to be revived in a series of short films to be shown on Facebook. The hit vampire franchise starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson ran for five movies, the last of which opened in cinemas in 2012.
Now Lionsgate studios and Stephenie Meyer, who wrote the books on which the hit franchise was based, have announced plans to make five “mini-movies” based on Twilight characters to be shown exclusively on the social networking site next year.
Kristen, who starred as Bella Swan in the films, and Stephenie will be part of an all-female panel who will choose and mentor five aspiring female directors to make the shorts. Other panellists include the actresses Kate Winslet, Octavia Spencer and Julie Bowen; Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first Twilight movie; the film producer Cathy Schulman and Jennifer Lee, who co-directed hit animated movie Frozen. Stephenie said in a statement: “The female voice is something that has become more and more important to me as I’ve worked in the film industry.”
Michael Burns, Lionsgate’s vice chairman told the New York Times: “We think Facebook is a great way for us to introduce the world of Twilight to a whole new audience while re-energising existing fans.”
