KHANEWAL: Owing to nonpayment of their dues for the last year, hundreds of sugarcane growers of the area attacked the offices of Kacha Khu Sugar Mills, damaging furniture of the mills. They also blocked the Khanewal-Vehari national highway.

They reached outside the premises of the sugar mills and chanted slogan against the administration against the non-payment. They people entered the administration block of the mill and damaged computers, a TV, furniture and fixtures. Taking to newsman, they said that the mills had purchased sugarcane from them on credit but now they are using delaying tactic to pay them. The mills has to pay them about Rs500 million but it has not made a single payment to the growers yet, they said.  After negotiation with police and district administration, the protesters dispersed. Sugarcane growers of the area have demanded with the government for immediate action for their payment. –Staff Reporter
