Yays and nays of PLBW16

The much awaited PFDC Loreal Bridal Week started in full swing on the 28th to 30th of September at Flaties Hotel, Lahore. Everyone’s hard work and commitment level tends to maximise at such events to create a massive hit. Since the success of any event is not possible without significant sponsors and cumbersome promoters.

So, I would like to praise the energy of marketing drives and promotional exercises of the sponsors. Among others, the outstanding ones were Borjan as the official footwear partner, Careem as the official transportation partner and Q-Mobile as a companion sponsor and picking the finest among them, we witnessed Rima Farid and Aamir Mazhar working way too firm to promote Q-Mobile as a noteworthy brand.

Collections:

1) Ali Xeeshan - The bigger the better!

Ali Xeeshan, as expected, came up with something entirely new to the bridal wear notion. This year finer motifs were introduced. Ali, being sensible, chose lighter, pastel colour palette to poise the outcome; not giving the attires a gaudy look. Mahira Khan being the show stopper, what else apart from excellence can be seen when the beauty of Mahira Khan and ingenuity of Ali Xeeshan is fused.

2) Bank Alfalah rising talent - More rise required please!

Unfortunately, two out of three competitors of The Bank Alfalah rising talent presented a collection that was a tender to eyes.

Amina Naeem: One of the designers got her inspiration from a western star (probably Madonna) but the event was not that well thought, as it was a Pakistani Bridal Wear show. Bare-legged brides are not at all hailed here, so please let us just celebrate the traditions fittingly.

Maryam Amjad: Another contestant who won the award, presented her collection which was inspired from under-water serene life. Do bridal attires have any connection with under-water life? And if we be a bit realistic, serenity also has a very less connection with your big day apparels. ‘Short skirts’, definitely, not a bridal thing; neither the silhouettes inspired by evolution of jellyfish nor the whitish, greyish, turquoise colours were aligned with the whole ‘bridal’ show. I am amazed at the results, nonetheless, was there really any criteria for the win?

Sara Naqvi: The third participant, was inspired by the Mughal era and showcased a collection which appropriately fitted the title of Bridal Collection. Her bridal attires in ‘Reds and Golds’ were intricately worked on and the cuts, in addition to broad hems, were gorgeous. I am sure with this thoughtful hard work and splendid aesthetic sense, the designer, Sara will create a very prosperous path.

3) Saira Rizwan: Pretty sightly!

Saira Rizwan’s collection was like breath of fresh air and the collection was equipped to suit even the most fashion-savvy brides. Saira made sure she got something for everyone; from nets, chiffons, organzas to velvets even. From being traditionally decorative to sultry, the dresses that came down the runway at PLBW16 were nothing short of spectacular.

4) MUSE: Over-dose of pearls is surely dangerous!

MUSE showcased their first ever bridal display at PLBW16. I was too excited to see the collection, even hoped to witness something new, but alas, I was extremely thwarted to see nothing new, not even the colour combos. With nothing much to state, I saw very basic motifs with pearls here, there and everywhere.

5) Nomi Ansari: The winner!

If I had to choose a sole winner of the entire Bridal Week 2016, that would be Nomi Ansari. The collection, titled as ‘Marjaan’ was blooming with springtime inspiration. Undoubtedly, Nomi Ansari knows how to play with colours, dexterously. Dresses, along with the accessories were notable for their level of flawless finishing. Very well-done Nomi!

6) Zara Shahjahan: ‘Spotted: nothing worth seeing!’

Been there, done that! Either the outfits were too plain or they were too gaudy. Zara failed to show anything new and as a matter of fact anything worth seeing. The collection took me back to the 90’s era and I saw many faces turning to plain bored. I had expected a lot better from Zara.

7) Farah and Fatima: Fresh and Exquisite!

The designer duo debuted their collection in PLBW16 and the collection had regal designs, which wowed us with their elaborated niceties and arrangements. I simply loved the vivid colour combinations and considerately displayed details. No doubt, Farah and Fatima did a magnificent job.
