ECP to hear Secy Interior on LG polls preparations

ISLAMABAD   -  The ECP will hear Secretary Interior and Chief Commissioner Islamabad on October 5 about the arrangements and preparations for LG elections in federal capital.  The federal government has already missed the dateline of September 5, given by the ECP on August 5, and failed to provide the Commission with relevant documents and maps important for delimitation in capital, despite the fact that the term of local government institutions of Islamabad has already expired in February this year and ECP is bound to hold elections within 120 day. Meanwhile, a senior official of the ECP told The Nation that a time frame of 30 days on August 5 was given to Secretary Interior and Chief Commission Islamabad to complete all the relevant arrangements for the LG elections in the capital.

The official said that ECP was all ready to hold the LG elections across the country, saying that the progress of provinces and the capital was very sluggish and dormant towards the LG elections. The ECP official said that several times the election body had shown its reservations over the lazy response of provinces and Islamabad, adding that none of the provincial governments were serious in holding LG elections. It must be noted that the ECP on August 5, had directed Secretary Interior to complete legislation for Local Government setup in Islamabad within 30 days and provide ECP the relevant documents and maps important for delimitation in capital.
