Army not empowered to interfere in civil matters

Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said the Chief of Army or any other individual have no powers to take steps in violation of the Trust Act. In his remarks during Army Welfare Trust case hearing the Chief Justice said Wednesday that Army is a public institution, which can be called for help in emergency conditions. But in normal situation no institution has been empowered to interfere in civil matters, he added.
