SHC prayed for Brig Imtiaz arrest

KARACHI - A petition was filed in Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday to arrest Brig (r) Imtiaz Ahmed for hatching conspiracy against Pakistan. Sohail Hameed Advocate moved a constitutional petition to SHC, seeking the arrest of former Director Gen Intelligence Bureau Brig (r) Imtiaz Ahmed for allegedly undermining the national interests. The petitioner submitted that Brig (r) Imtiaz was disgracing the defence forces and harming the national interests - the agenda of the foreign powers - while hatching conspiracy to damage the democratic system in the country. According to him, the disputes have erupted involving the different factions owing to his recent interviews and statements on TV channels and newspapers, while he also had tried to create anarchy among the political forces. He suspected that the entire system of the democratic and political process would be damaged in the context of such approach, as such statements are against the defence action and security matters and that he was also violating his oath he took while joining the army. The petitioner also termed his statements as triggering hatred among different sections of the country, as well as the political forces, while he tried to promote extremism in the country and develop the perception that the fundamentalists are ruling the country. He also accused that Brig (r) Imtiaz was promoting the agenda of the west, by damaging the image of the country. Respondents in the petition are Brig Imtiaz, Prime Minister, Secretary Defence, Secretary Interior and others. He also pleaded for arresting Brig (r) Imtiaz under section 208 while requesting the court to take legal action against him.
