Dengue to be tackled properly

KARACHI - KMC Administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed said fumigation campaign against dengue virus would be carried out with all available resources so that the citizens could be saved from this deadly disease.
He said this while chairing a meeting held to review the anti-dengue campaign being run in different areas of the city. Administrators of all five district municipal corporations, municipal commissioners, health officers, senior director municipal services, focal person for dengue control programme Nauman Arshad and other officers attended the meeting. The administrator said, “Whatever and how much problems we might have, the citizens could not be left on the mercy of circumstances and the troubles. We just have to focus and work on the single point agenda which is “dengue bhagao-jan bachao” and for this purpose we will have to work very hard to provide shield to the citizens against the lethal virus.” He said the spray campaign would be carried out by the KMC and all district municipal corporations jointly and in this connection a comprehensive strategy had been worked out.  Spray campaign was performed in different areas of the city under this programme.
Senior Director Municipal Services Dr Shaukat Zaman gave a detailed briefing on the present fumigation campaign in the city. He said all the commercial areas, offices, buildings and shopping malls would be covered during the campaign to eliminate the mosquitoes. The special ward in Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for dengue fever treatment had also been made functional with the arrangements for test of dengue virus in other hospitals.
SEWERAGE LINES INSPECTED: Haq Parast Member provincial Assembly Sindh Nishat Muhammed Zia Qadri has called for removing all encroachments along water courses and nullas for efficient working of sewerage system so that the rain water could not cause inconvenience to the public.
In this regard he directed clearing all encroachments in and around Malir River, Chakora Nulla, Golden Town Nulla, and all other seasonal water courses in Shah Faisal colony area without delay.
He also instructed the local bodies and Water and Sewerage Board to mend the flow of rain streams and sewerage lines in the area.  The MPA also visited the Shah Faisal colony area along with the concerned officials and reviewed the emergency plan for monsoon rains. He also appealed to the people not to throw and dump garbage in rain water courses and drains and clear encroachments along them informing the concerned officials disregard of these instructions to check such illegal actions.
