At least four persons were killed and several others injured in fresh spate of target killing in different areas of the city on Sunday. The police arrested several suspects during search operations in various localities of Karachi.

According to details, unknown armed men gunned down two persons in separate firing incidents in Macchar Colony and Malir Halt areas.

The police recovered two bullet riddled and tortured bodies enclosed in gunny bags from different areas of Karachi including Sohrab Goth. The bodies were shifted to hospital for postmortem where identity of the deceased was yet to be ascertained. Police said that both persons were killed after kidnapping them and later their bodies were dumped in different areas after shooting them.

Two persons identified as Iqbal, 30, and Jalil, 25, were injured in firing incident at University Road in Safoora Chourangi. Police claimed that both injured persons attempted to commit robbery and were injured in firing of dwellers.

In New Karachi, Lyari Haji Camp, Korangi’s Nasir Colony, Gulbahar, Surjani areas of Karachi six persons including a woman were injured. The injured included Nusrat Bibi, Ashraf, 22, Danish, 30, Asad, 38, Fazal Hameed, 18, and another person.

The family and relatives of the deceased who was shot dead at Marripur Road near Netti Jetti Bridge held protest demonstration against the incident and blocked the main road by burning tyres creating massive traffic jam on two sides of the road. The protestors also pelted stones at vehicles of police and rangers who reached there to overcome the situation after which they started aerial firing to disperse the enraged protestors.

Meanwhile, police and Rangers during separate raids and search in various areas of the city including Lyari and Malir arrested more than a dozen suspects and recovered arms from their possession.

The citizens expressing resurge in target killing and violence in the city have demanded the authorities to take solid steps and accelerate the efforts to restore peace in the city. They also criticised the law enforcement agencies over failure in overcoming the violent incidents. The citizens were of the view that law and order situation in Karachi and uncertainty has also put future of their next generations at stake.
