MANDI BAHAUDDIN

The residents of Kotli Afghana have urged the government to stop the illegal occupation of their land by army personnel.

Advocate Mehar Gulzar alleged that army had taken some piece of land from the Irrigation Department. He said that the land was acquired by the Wapda in 1965 for making diversion of Lower Jhelum Canal to facilitate construction of Rasul Qadirabad Link Canal with undertaking that after completion of the project the land would be returned to its real owners.

So according to the agreement after completion of the project possession was returned to the original owners and since then the residents were cultivating it, he claimed.

He said that the army personnel claimed that they had taken the land on lease therefore they would occupy it.

Mehr said the residents had explained that their land was not included which army had taken from the Irrigation Department but they were adamant to occupy it.
