Govt fields new senior cop to handle marchers

ISLAMABAD - Perturbed over the ongoing sit-ins of the two protesting parties in Islamabad, the federal government has given the acting charge of IGP Islamabad to DIG Police Tahir Alam and he is the third IGP of the capital that has been appointed during the last two weeks.
The government has appointed Tahir Alam as the DIG (Operations) Islamabad while he has been given the additional charge of IGP.
According to the Interior Ministry, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has taken this decision keeping in view the low morale of the police force in the wake of its clashes with the protestors.
Earlier, Khalid Khattak was given the charge of acting IGP Islamabad after his predecessor Aftab Ahmed Cheema had refused to continue with his job because of the ongoing sit-ins in the capital.
Tahir Alam has already served in Islamabad as and SSP Islamabad and AIG Special Branch Islamabad. He has also served in Sindh DIG (Reserve Police).
