LAKKI MARWAT - Three new municipal roads are in the pipeline for Lakki city as the engineering department of municipal committee has prepared PC-I of the project after a successful anti-encroachment operation in Lakki city," said an official on Monday.
The official said that local administration launched successful operation against encroachments in last couple of months and retrieved property of local council from land grabbers in Lakki city. After removal of illegal infrastructures from government lands, residents of urban locality had requested Deputy Commissioner Syed Zafar Ali Shah to widen roads so as to protect them from encroachers in future," he maintained.
He revealed that Local Government Minister Inayatullah Khan during a visit to Lakki city in July had also expressed concern over deteriorating condition of roads and had promised to build municipal roads in Lakki City.
In order to protect retrieved land on roadsides the deputy commissioner directed local quarters concerned to prepare PC-I of municipal roads and forward the case to higher government functionaries for approval," he added.
He further said that high-ups of local government and rural development department had been requested to approve funds of Rs20.094m for the construction of Kargil Chowk-Girls College road, Eidgah-main road and Lorry Adda-Saeedkhel road via Bazaar Minakhel and Mela Mandi in Lakki city. The construction of municipal roads, he said, would add to the beautification of urban locality besides they would help end traffic problems.
Meanwhile, on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Syed Zafar Ali the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highway authority and forest department provides excavator and tractors to the municipal committee to dispose of garbage dumps.
An official said the strike of municipal workers against non-payment of salaries during previous months turned Lakki city into a filth depot. He said that residents faced inconvenience due to heaps of garbage scattered in parts of urban locality. "The poor hygienic condition was also posing serious threats to the health of citizens," he maintained. He said with meagre resources the civic administration was helpless to clean the urban locality.
He said that Deputy Commissioner Syed Zafar Ali Shah took serious notice of poor state of cleanliness condition and directed PKHA and Forest Department to provide heavy machinery including excavator and tractors to the municipal body for removing garbage dumps.
Official went on to say that deputy commissioner warned that after provision of heavy machinery for cleanliness campaign no excuse on party of municipal authorities would be tolerated.
