LAHORE/ISLAMABAD - Legal fraternity on Monday observed strike and boycotted court proceedings to condemn brutal torture on marchers and media persons in Islamabad.
The lawyers did not appear in the courts due to which thousands of cases were adjourned to next dates. All courts including high court, sessions and civil courts gave a deserted look as the lawyers boycotted their routine work and stayed in their chambers and barrooms. On the other hand, the litigants faced huge problems for the strike because their cases were fixed for other days. In Lahore, LHCBA condemned PTI chief Imran Khan for leveling false allegations against lawyers’ leaders, saying the attack on state media house PTV by participants of the Islamabad marches was an unprecedented act.
IHC, district courts shut
Legal fraternity Monday completely observed strike at Islamabad High Court (IHC) and district courts and boycotted the courts proceedings to condemn brutal torture and shelling of police on the innocent children and women.
The lawyers observed the strike in the courts on the call of Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) and Punjab Bar Council (PbBC) and they did not appear before the courts to protest the brutal incident.
Talking to The Nation, Chaudhary Khalid Hussain Advocate, media coordinator of Islamabad Bar Association (IBA), informed that the legal community completely boycotted the court proceedings to register their protest against the police brutality against the innocent people. He said that district courts presented a deserted look due to lawyers' strike and they preferred to sit in the cafes instead of appearing before the courts. He informed that the community has also urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk to take suo moto notice of the incident.
He added that the lawyers fully condemned police action in which cops resorted to firing, shelling and baton charge against the protestors in the federal capital.
Khalid said that in this connection, they strongly condemned police brutality against the media persons who were performing their duties when police targeted them and tortured inhumanely. He remarked that lawyers had also expressed their sympathies with the journalists who were beaten up by the policemen and expressed their solidarity with them.
