LAHORE - Parts of the country received rainfall of varying intensities on Monday, bringing life to a standstill by causing urban flooding, massive traffic jams and frequent power shutdowns.
Rain- thundershowers occurred at isolated places in Kashmir, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Mlakand, Hazara, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas divisions, Barkhan and Lesbella.
The rains disturbed life in major cities including Lahore as the rainwater inundated roads not only in low-lying areas but also in several posh localities. Rainwater and slippery conditions of roads caused massive traffic jams in urban areas. The rains, however, provided respite to the people from the prevailing muggy weather by causing considerable decrease in the mercury level. In Lahore, rains started at around 9am and continued intermittently till the evening. Short bursts of heavy rains submerged roads and streets into knee deep water. Heavy monsoon rains smashed to the ground tall claims of Wasa regarding its preparation for the rainy season as it took hours to the sanitation agency to clear roads from inundated rainwater.  Major roads, not only in Northern Lahore but also in several posh localities, were presenting pictures of lakes and ponds even hours after stoppage of rains. Many roads were not cleared from inundated rainwater even six-eight hours after stoppage of rains. The rains added to the woes of motorists and pedestrians.
Main Boulevard Gulberg, Lakshami Chowk, Farrukhabad, Paniwala Talab, Garhi Shahu, Chowk Nakhuda, Mozang, Tharenten Road, Revaz Garden, Chuburji, Aziz Road, Samanabad, Main Boulevard Iqbal Town, Johar Town, Wahdat Colony, Rehman Pura, Railway Road, Shadbagh, Circular Road, Saidpur, Shahnoor, Scheme Mor, Sabzazar, Abbot Road, Gawalmandi, Data Nagar and Abdul Karim Road, were the worst affected areas as far as inundation of rainwater in concerned.
On Monday, maximum and minimum temperature in Lahore was recorded 30 degree Celsius and 25 C respectively. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded 96 percent.  People come out of their houses in the evening to enjoy pleasant change in weather after the heavy monsoon rains.
Major parks and picnic spots attracted a large number of people including women and children in the evening. Huge rush was witnessed at Bagh-e-Jinnah, Racecourse Park, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Jallo Park and Lahore Zoo in the evening. 
According to the experts, well marked low pressure area is lying over eastern India (Southeastern Madhya Pardesh) and is likely to move west-northwestward during next couple of days.
Under the influence of this weather system, strong monsoon current will start to penetrate in Pakistan (Punjab, Sindh and Kashmir on Tuesday/Wednesday). Seasonal low lies over Baluchistan and adjoining areas. A westerly wave is lying over Afghanistan.
The local meteorological department has forecast widespread rain-thundershower for Islamabad, Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, D G Khan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal divisions), Hazara division, Sindh (Mirpurkhas and Sukkar divisions) and Kashmir and scattered rains for Multan, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Peshawar, Kohat, Malakand, Bannu and D I Khan divisions and Gilgit- Baltistan during the next couple of days.
On Monday, Lahore received (82 mm at Chowk Nakhuda, 80 mm at Farrukhabad, 75 mm at Paniwala Talab, 24 mm at Jail Road, 18 mm at Upper Mall), Islamabad 61 mm, Murree 57 mm, Gujrat 47 mm, Faisalabad 42 mm, Garhi Duppata 33, Sialkot 30 mm, Malam Jabba 24 mm, Kakul 23 mm, Gujranwala 19 mm, Barkhan 18 mm, Pattan 17 mm, Saidu Sharif 13 mm, Lasbela 12 mm, Badin and Balakot 10 mm each, Rawalpindi 10 mm, Muzaffarabad 09 mm, Mangla 08 mm, Chakwal 07 mm, Jehlum and Mandi Bahauddin 05 mm each.
