Ayyan asked to contact ATC

Customs inspector murder case

Rawalpindi - Ayyan Ali will face terrorism charges as a public prosecutor yesterday informed a local civil judge/magistrate that police had inserted charges of terrorism in the murder case of Customs Inspector Chaudhry Ijaz Ahmed.

The court ordered Ayyan Ali to appear before anti-terrorism court and face the proceedings in customs inspector murder case.

The court was hearing an application filed by Ayyan Ali. Ayyan said in her plea that she had nothing to do with the murder of the customs officer. She urged the court to record her statement in the case as local police had refused to entertain her statement sent through courier.

Prosecutor Malik Bilal said that the court could not hear the application filed by Ayyan after addition of terrorism charges in the murder case.

Earlier, Saima Bibi, widow of Inspector Chaudhry Ijaz, had accused Ayyan of having link in the murder of her husband. The customs officer was killed in June last year within the limits of police station Waris Khan. According to Saima, her husband was an important prosecution witness against Ayyan Ali in currency smuggling case.

Ayyan Ali was held by Customs in March 2015 while trying to smuggle more than $500,000 to USA through a private airline.
