ISLAMABAD - A day after giving sharp reaction over government’s stance that results of July 25 elections were delayed due to faulty Result Transmission System, National Database and Registration Authority on Saturday abruptly postponed its presser that was scheduled to challenge stance of the government over the RTS.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Azam Swati along with Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry while addressing a press conference, the other day, had said that top officials of NADRA were involved in the failure of the RTS system. The NADRA denied the allegation and said that its high ups had decided to hold a press conference at 2 pm on Saturday over the issue. However, NADRA authorities on Saturday postponed the press conference without giving any reason. A message from NADRA only said that it had postponed the presser.

A senior official of the NADRA said that the press conference was postponed because Chairman NADRA Usman Yousif Mubeen had to leave for Lahore on the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan to resolve the issue of blockage of CNICs of people of a locality in the provincial capital. However, he averted a question as to why the new timing of the press conference had not been announced if it was postponed because of the unavailability of chairman NADRA.

NADRA on Friday in a statement had given sharp reaction and said that the authority wanted to make it clear that RTS remained completely functional on Election Day and never crashed. A spokesperson of NADRA had said that the RTS had no link with Result Management System (RMS) of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). He said that it was wrong notion that data was transmitted to RMS through the RTS. He said that NADRA was ready to explain the issue at any forum as well as for a forensic audit.

The PTI Senator Azam Swati, who has been tasked by his party to probe the delay in the transmission of election results, had said that the PTI was seeing involvement of top officials of NADRA in crashing of the RTS. He said that the government wanted to have an independent forensic audit of the issue and some key officials of NADRA including its chairman would have to be replaced before holding an independent investigation.

PPP REITERATES DEMAND OF PROBE

Pakistan People’s Party has reiterated its demand for conducting investigation into the failure of Result Transmission System by a parliamentary committee and a forensic audit of all Forms 45 uploaded by the ECP on its website.

"A new situation has been created by the government accusing NADRA of 'twisting the system' and NADRA rebutting it and calling for forensic audit. Failure to address it will not avoid the problem, it will only invite a crisis", said Secretary General of PPP Farhatullah Babar. The leader demanded a thorough forensic audit of all Forms 45 uploaded by the ECP. “Is it correct that tens of thousands of the uploaded Forms 45 do not bear the signatures of presiding officers as required under the law and why,” he posed a question.

"The rejection of 'twisting the system' allegation and demanding forensic audit by NADRA is a challenge which can be ignored only by those who have contempt for the people", he added. He said that refusal to face the truth will reinforce the perception that the people of Pakistan were defrauded, their mandate stolen and power transfer manipulated so as to implement some undisclosed agenda. PPP’s MNA Nafeesa Shah had already criticised the PTI’s government for not conducting probe into the matter on RTS issue and hinted to raise it in the parliament.

PPP’s sources said that PPP’s lawmakers will submit an adjournment motion in the National Assembly Secretariat demanding discussion and proper response from the government side on the matter.
