'Q' forward bloc seeks own leader

LAHORE - The PML-Q forward bloc has announced to submit a written request to Speaker Punjab Assembly to have its own Parliamentary leader on Friday (today) after exhibiting more than 44 members to prove its numerical strength to become PML-Q Parliamentary party in Assembly. The announcement was made after a meeting with the PML-N held at Nawaz residence at Raiwind here on Thursday. However, Forward Bloc reserved the decision to announce its alliance with PML-N that showed that it still had reservations about the likely inclusion of the members of the PPP in Cabinet and Punjab govt. As many as 9 new members of the PML-Q including Shahid Khalil, Ch. Arshad, Bao Rizwan, Zulqarnain Sahi, Amir Sultan Cheema, Aazam Chila, Dildar Cheema, Raza Gillani and Ahmed Khan joined Forward Bloc during the meeting, while still more induction is expected in 24 hours. According to sources, PML-Q forward bloc, known as unification bloc spearheaded by Atta Muhammad Maneka was expected to make another announcement to form an alliance with the PML-N but he put off the decision leaving the matter on developments to be unfurled in coming days. The sources confided that forward bloc had a strong desire to meet PML-N chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, but the wish could not come true for one reason or the other. The sources within PML-N told The Nation that party lawmakers from Punjab, soon after the restoration of Punjab govt, had advised Shahbaz Sharif in a party meeting to give Ministries to bloc proportionately to its numerical strength in case of alliance. Some suggested that the alliance, may be forged or not, members of Forward Bloc should be given some Ministries, sourced maintained. PML-Q Forward Bloc comprising 36 members held a meeting with PML-N party President and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif at Raiwind on Thursday. Ch. Nisar Ali Khan , Zardar Zulfiqar Ali Khosa, Rana Sanaullah and others were also present in the meeting. In the course of meeting, Atta Maneka reiterated his full-fledged support to PML-N showing his faith on the leadership of Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif. Talking to The Nation, he said that unification bloc would seek the status of provincial Parliamentary Party by submitting a request to Speaker Punjab Assembly on Friday and then to get its own Parliamentary leader elected. On a query, he said the new PML-Q Parliamentary leader would be decided by taking all members into confidence during the meeting to be held in one or two days. He said that Amir Hiyat Hiraj hailing from Khanewal could not appear in a show of strength as he was going to be married on Thursday. He said 'I am his guarantor and he could never ditch us. He said that a woman MPA hailing from Daska was likely to join the bloc on Friday (today). He dispelled the impression that unification bloc would merge into the PML-N. He said 'whether we make alliance or just support to PML-N, rests on the future development about to be unfolded soon. He said that the forward bloc had turned to be the PML-Q provincial Parliamentary party, as over half of the Q-League MPAs had joined it and its strength had crossed to 45. The member of PML-Q forward bloc who attended the meeting included Atta Maneka, Dr Mukhtar Ahmed Bherth, Dr Tahir Ali Javed, Ch Arshad, Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti, Malik Jalaluddin Dhaku, Fateh Muhammad Buzdar , Khalid Mehmood Sargana, Sultan Sikandar Bharwana, , Col (Retd) Shujaat, Saba Sadiq, Nadeem Rabhera, Imran Qureshi, Pir Rafiuddin Bokhari, Kashif Chishti. Ghulam Jaffer Sargana, Shahid Saleem Noor, Ghazal Farhat, Naghma Mushtaq and others.
