ISLAMABAD (APP) - Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has said the proposed 18th Constitutional Amendment would strengthen democracy in the country and further promote good governance. Talking to journalists at the Parliament House Friday, Kaira said people would hear good news as the Parliament would pass the proposed draft shortly. The Minister said true spirit of 1973 Constitution was badly damaged in the past. He said suggestions like strengthening of federation and democracy, good governance and provincial autonomy have been proposed in the draft. He said the constitutional reforms would not only strengthen the democratic institutions but also help address long-standing problems of the public. Today is a historic day that was long awaited by people, he said, lauding the joint efforts of Constitutional Reforms Committee. The whole Committee deserves appreciation for its sincerity and untiring efforts in preparing the draft, he stated. Kaira said in this crucial era, it is a historic decision of the government that shares the credit for this report along with other political parties who supported these amendments.
