LAHORE (PPI) - The prices of generators were sky rocketing due to high demand amidst severe loadshedding and scorching heat in the provincial metropolis. During the last one-month the generators prices were increased by at least 40 per cent in the market. According to details, there were two types of generators available in market: two stroke generators functioning with petrol and four strokes, functioning both with petrol and natural gas. The generators were available from 500 Watt to 3,000 Watt in bazaar. In recent month of March the demand of generators rapidly risen after loadshedding and summer weather. Pakistan is not manufacturing the generators and all types of generators available in market are being imported from China, Japan, USA and UK. The Brandreth Road is the largest sale point where generators are available at retail and wholesale prices. The prices of different kinds of two stroke generators are as under: 500 watt for Rs 4,500, 1,000 watt for Rs 10,000, 2,000 watt for Rs 22,000 and 3,000 watt generators available at Rs 24,000. The 4 stroke generators which consume petrol and natural gas and not generate smoke were more costly against 2 stroke generators. The prices of 4 stroke generators were as under: 1000 watt for Rs 17000, 2,000 watt for Rs 32,000 and 3,000 watt generators were selling at Rs 36,000 in market. S M Ishfaq, a whole sale dealer of China made generators and Executive Member of LCCI told this news agency that there were sufficient generators available according to customers demand. The prices were rising due to high demand of the product. Mubashir Ishfaq, a young importer of generators, said that the prices of generators increased during the last one month. If the government waved off the duties and taxes on the import of generators and offered subsidy on generators the people could easily access the generators for their homes, shops and even educational and official requirements. Muhammad Khalid said that all kinds of generators were short in market due to sudden high demand and prices were also increasing up to 40 per cent due to high demand. The customers said that traders and importers have made artificial shortage of generators and they were minting the money but no government agency was taking notice of the shortage and high rate of generators in country.
