RAWALPINDI - Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and Special Commandos of Police (SCP) demonstrated impressive anti-terror skills at Police Lines here on Friday. In these demonstrations, highly trained personnel of new ATS and SCP displayed their skills and ability to provide security to VVIPs against terrorist activities, combat with the terrorists in fictitious act of terrorism and skills of commando actions in circumstances of any untoward incident. City Police Officer (CPO) Rao Mohammad Iqbal Khan who attended the ceremony as chief guest and other police officials present there appreciated the training and skills of these personnel of ATS and SCP. The especially trained policemen demonstrated impressively how to frustrate a sudden attack on a VVIP; how to defuse detective material without causing any harm to anyone in surrounding areas; how to secure release of hostages from captivity of terrorists and also how to overpower a suicide bomber. Everyone was stunned by the impressive anti-terror skills of Rapid Response Teams (RRTs), Bomb Disposal Units and above all the Elite Force. The credit must be to Pakistan Army for being imparting a specialized anti-terrorism training to a total of 1,200 police jawans and officers. Out of which 200 policemen have already completed their training, while a third batch of 100 was nowadays getting training. The training process would be completed within a year. Speaking on the occasion, CPO Rawalpindi Rao Mohammad Iqbal Khan acknowledged the abilities of police force and announced CC-2 and cash rewards for successfully demonstrating their specialized skills. It is relevant to mention here that the United States has imparted training to special bomb disposal unit under Anti-Terrorism Assistance (ATA) Programme. The bomb disposal unit has also been provided bombproof suits. Bomb disposal squad has also completed a special Explosive Incident Counter Measures (EICM) from the US. A total of 20 policemen including two Inspectors, one Sub inspector, two Assistant Sub Inspectors, one Head Constable and 14 Constables embraced shahadat from 2003 to 2009 in 18 terror incidents here in Rawalpindi District. Rawalpindi Police has set up 28 pickets in Rawalpindi district especially to counter the menace of terrorism.
