ISLAMABAD Tennis star Sania Mirza will have to wait for two years if she wants to represent Pakistan in the Davis Cup competitions after marrying Shoaib Malik. An official of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) told TheNation here on Friday that she could play tennis for Pakistan after living a minimum of two years in Pakistan as a Pakistani citizen. He said that Sania already had announced that she would play for India after tying the knot with Pakistani start cricketer Shoaib Malik this month. She will live in Dubai and it is up to her to play for Pakistan or India. But she may be inspiring for other upcoming girls if she plays for us, he added. Meanwhile, former Davis Cupper Hameed-ul-Haq said that Indian media was trying to create controversy on the marriage of two high flying sports personalities. No doubt, Sania is great tennis player, however, Shoaib Malik is also a star cricket player and has led the green shirts in international events. Both are stars in their own right. We should avoid to issue unnecessary statements which create controversy. She has already announced to play for India and we should not plunge into any debate, he added.
