ISLAMABAD The Supreme Court on Friday sought clarification from the Petroleum and Finance Ministries regarding irregularities committed in tenders of the Liquid Natural Gas (LNG). Former Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has also been directed to submit clarification. A three-member bench of the SC headed by CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry heard suo moto case on a news story of an Islamabad-based investigative journalist who unveiled the scandal. He was also present in the court to inform it regarding the details of irregularities. He presented the details of scandals in the apex court. The details revealed how top guns of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources awarded a multibillion dollars contract of Rs 3.5 million for LNG import to a French firm after ignoring the lowest bid jointly offered by the Fauji Foundation and the Vitol. The court has ordered Petroleum and Finance Ministries to submit clarification and also directed former Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin to submit statement. Later, the hearing has been adjourned till April 12.
